It is primarily used to determine the Optic Characteristic of transparent to translucent Gem material (This cannot be used with opaque stones). It shows whether a stone is singly refractive or doubly refractive (both loose and mounted stone). The side opening lets the unit serves as a light source for a refractometer. Doubly refractive stone may be divided further as to whether they are of the uniaxial or the Bi-axial system. The pleochroism may also be detected in stones, which possess this characteristic to a fairly marked degree. Available in 110 V & 220 V
